Unable to browse your local library? Not sure what to read? Here are some ideas from East Riding Libraries : 

Since re-opening on Monday 6 July, the East Riding Libraries team have dealt with thousands of queries and book reservations, and just as many books returned. Many customers have relished being able to borrow physical books again; some are converts to the free eBooks available with their library card; but many are missing browsing and picking books up from displays in branches.

The East Riding Libraries team have put together some helpful hints on getting reading inspiration using the online catalogue: https://library.eastriding.gov.uk   and logging in with your library card and pin.

1. Librarians have created collections of books to browse on the ‘Read’ page of the catalogue : https://library.eastriding.gov.uk/web/arena/read There are some brilliant suggestions, including a collection of ‘Armchair Travel’, #BlackLivesMatter, Comedy Women in Print and LGBTQ+, and these are updated periodically with new collections.
2. Check out the ‘Who Writes Like’ website (link on the ‘Read’ page on the internet) which is free to access when customers are logged into their library account on the catalogue. Simply type in a favourite author, and others who write similarly will be recommended.
3. Access to Literature Map is another free benefit for East Riding Library members, also linked from the ‘Read’ page of the online catalogue, and again suggests authors similar to others recently enjoyed.
4. On the eBook and eAudiobook apps (Borrowbox and RB Digital), the team have created collections of books on the home page.
5. For those still struggling for reading inspiration, pick up the phone and give your local library a call, especially when it comes to children’s books; just let the team know the age of the child and what they are interested in and the team will put together some suitable books. 6. Councillor Shaun Horton, portfolio holder for coastal regeneration and tourism including culture and leisure, said: “Until we are able to reopen our libraries for customers to browse through books, all these services are invaluable for people in these challenging times.”

East Riding Libraries continue to offer an Order and Collect service, where customers can reserve books online and then collect from a library of their choice once available, and fines continue to be suspended until further notice.
