Humber Bridge voted the most scenic drive in the country
Wed 7th February 2018Coming top of a list of some of the most beautiful drives in the country is the one-and-a-half mile drive over the Humber Bridge, crossing from East Yorkshire to North Lincolnshire. LeaseCar.uk, which invited a panel of motoring experts to create the list, were keen to increase the routes people take on their journeys by exploring alternatives to their usual motorway and A-road drives.
The list includes drives through the Lake District and North Yorkshire, which would be considered more traditionally scenic but crossing the Humber Bridge clearly has its fan-base. Didn't Jeremy Clarkson once say he considered the Humber Bridge to be one of the prettiest things in the world, alongside a DB7 and a Blackbird SR71 spy plane?
The bridge, opened in 1981, was once the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world. Today it's the 8th longest but still the longest in the UK. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan opened in 1998 is the longest.
