Local Golf Captain Raises Nearly 4 000 For Beverley Learning Disability Day Centre

Chris Reeves, golf captain for Hainsworth Park Golf Club, Brandesburton, has raised nearly £4,000 for Millers Day Services’ welfare fund.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Millers Day Services, Beverley, specialise in learning disabilities and complex care support. The service provides a variety of facilities and scheduled activities, supporting service users within a safe and empowering environment.

Chris, from Tickton, chose Millers Day Services’ Welfare Fund as the golf club's chosen charity for the year and organised multiple fun days, events, and tournaments at the club throughout the year to raise the money. The fun days focused on golfing competitions and games such as Texas Scramble and Yellow Peril with club members and leisurely golfers alike taking part.

In addition to these events, Chris undertook a charity bike ride and golf day in June 2024. Starting his journey at 5:30 AM from Tickton, Chris cycled to Brandesburton Golf Club where he played a round of golf with assistant pro Kai Jarvi. He then continued his ride to Hornsea, playing another round of golf with Hornsea captain Richard Pooley, cycling back to Brandesburton for a third round of golf before returning to Tickton.

Chris's motivation to support Millers Day Services stems from his personal connection to the service users from Tickton. He was inspired by a family friend's brother who used the services at Millers for many years before he sadly passed away.

Altogether Chris raised the impressive sum of £3,922.05 and said: ‘’It was my responsibility as golf captain for Hainsworth Park Golf Club to select our chosen charity for year and for me, Millers Day Services was an easy choice.

‘’I know of service users from our village who currently use and have used Millers Day Services for a long time and I’m aware of the fantastic work that the service does to care for these people and the essential support that the service provides to their families too."

‘’I was overjoyed to visit Millers Day Services to announce the funds raised and can’t wait to see the new and improved outdoor space that the donation will help to create.’’

Chris’s determination and enthusiasm inspired sponsorship from family, friends, as well as some of the team members at Millers Day Services. His contribution will be used to create a new sensory garden, providing a tranquil and therapeutic space for service users to enjoy gardening and relaxing.

Tom Denham, service manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: ‘’As a service we are delighted with this generous donation from Chris and his supporters.

‘’This donation to our welfare fund will allow us to make some much-needed improvements to the outdoor courtyard, with plans to create a sensory garden with new planters and a seating area so the service users can make the most of their space.’’

The team at Millers Day Service could not be happier with this kind donation and have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Chris for all of his efforts to raise the money.
