A chance to get involved with the Christmas exhibition at Sewerby Hall and Gardens

The festive exhibition at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, officially opening on 30 November, will be The Making of Christmas, looking at how the Victorians adopted ancient customs at Christmastime, and grafted on a few of their own to make the Christmas still enjoyed today.
Staff and curators at the venue are looking for the public to get involved in the exhibition and are appealing for old Christmas objects.
Janice Smith, curator, said: “We would be interested in any old Christmas decorations, cards, paper - anything, really, from the 19th century through to the 1970s and 1980s. Please have a look in your attic or cupboards and let’s see if we can add a whole extra element to this charming exhibition!”
Anybody who would like to donate an item to the exhibition is asked to email Janice on Janice.smith@eastriding,gov.uk or education officer Robert Chester on Robert.chester@eastriding.gov.uk with brief details of what they can add to the exhibition.
‘The Making of Christmas’ will be on display in the house at weekends only until early January.
