Local charity benefits from donation by Tesco Charity Trust
Wed 5th August 2015Local charity, Beverley Community Lift, was presented with a cheque for over £2000 on Saturday by the town’s Tesco store.
A cheque for £2,148 was presented to Eve Bolton from the local charity, as a result of the Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme.
The Trust provides one off donations of between £500 and £2,500 to local charities and not for profit organisations, and has been helping local organisations since 1987. Funding provided by the scheme goes towards providing practical benefits, such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit health, environmental sustainability or opportunities for young people in the local communities around Tesco stores in the UK.
Jan Stainforth, Chief Executive Officer at Beverley Community Lift said: ‘‘We would like to thank Tesco very much for their generous donation'‹. This valuable contribution to the work of our charity means such a lot to the people that we work with; the elderly, disabled, and those who are rurally isolated.
Our community transport service is more than just providing a minibus or car service, it enables people to live independently, supports'‹ and encourages '‹independence for people to access health services; supports'‹ social groups to improve'‹ quality of life; encourages volunteering in the community and offers'‹ training; and it allows us to work in close partnership with other groups and agencies to improve the quality of life of the community as a whole.'‹ Above all, we care about the people we provide a service to, and this funding will allow us to do that more effectively.
The grant that Tesco have given us will replace and renew the charity’s computer equipment, help us to improve efficiency, keep costs down, keep an up-to-date database of over 100 volunteer drivers, our passenger assistants, and all of our service users. But more than this, the grant really will make a big difference to our beneficiaries, staff and volunteers and help us improve on the services we provide for our local community.’’
'‹Mark Pickering, Tesco Beverley store manager, said: ‘‘We are so pleased that we are able to help Beverley Community Lift via our Charity Trust and by doing so, know that we can help make a real difference in our local community.’’
