Free summer sky ride

Wed 30th April 2014

Beverley residents are invited to dust off their bikes and make the most of a new programme of free, guided bike rides this summer.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has joined forces with British Cycling to bring a series of Sky Ride Local bike rides to the area, starting on Sunday, 15 June.

Sky Ride Locals are guided by friendly British Cycling Ride Leaders along scenic, planned routes. The rides cater for all ages and abilities and run at three different levels so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re building your confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge.

Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning, said: “Cycling has never been more popular, especially with the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour De France taking place in Yorkshire in July. Whatever your age or fitness level, it’s easy to get involved with Sky Ride Local.

“We’re delighted to be working with British Cycling to make it even easier for local people to get out on their bikes and have some fun this summer.”

There are five steady bike rides from Beverley, taking place on 29 June, 13 July, 3 August, 31 August and 7 September. More challenging rides start from Beverley Longcroft School on 27 July and 21 September.
