'The Wizard of Oz' anniversary is celebrated by Worklink at Sewerby Hall and Gardens

People with a learning disability who attend Worklink have been busy preparing unique floral displays to delight visitors to Sewerby Hall and Gardens over the summer season, to mark the 80th anniversary of the release of classic movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
With the support of staff and volunteers, people with a learning disability have been utilising their horticulture skills to create a series of displays to celebrate the Wizard of Oz.
Displays include Dorothy, Toto, The Wicked Witch of the West, the Tin Man, the lion, The Good Witch of the East, and the hot air balloon.
The displays are now in place in the Walled Garden and are made from recycled materials.
Steve Bromley, employment training co-ordinator at Worklink Sewerby, said: “Everyone at Worklink has put great time and effort into creating these wonderful displays which always generate a lot of interest from visitors to Sewerby Hall and Gardens.
“These creative and imaginative displays are sure to delight visitors of all ages over the coming months.”
Worklink Sewerby is used by over 30 people with a learning disability, aged 18 and over, who are working towards developing skills in horticulture, with a view to eventually gaining employment in the profession.
Worklink, which also has a learning resource centre in Cottingham, is run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and provides employment training for adults with learning disabilities.
Worklink at Sewerby Hall and Gardens is open all year round and has a large selection of plants for sale.
