East Riding Student Chefs Offered Five Star Jobs
Wed 13th April 2016Two catering and hospitality students have been offered full-time jobs at a five-star Oxford hotel after impressing during work experience placements.
Andrei Birang and India Miles, who both study at the College’s Bridlington campus, were offered the two-and-a-half-week stint at the MacDonald’s Randolph Hotel after a request from general manager Michael Grange to the College’s curriculum leader David Leaf.
They both jumped at the chance of a placement during the busy festive period, working in the restaurant and banqueting departments.
India and Drei worked breakfast, lunch and dinner functions – sometimes all three sessions in one day – including dinners for Gucci and TripAdvisor.
They even enjoyed the five-star treatment themselves, being chauffeur driven from the train station to the hotel on arrival and also being treated to lunch and dinner before settling into their hotel rooms.
They have now been offered full-time roles on completion of their Level Three Diploma in Professional Cookery in the summer.
David said: “India and Drei were a little nervous when they set off for Oxford but they came back full of confidence, having learnt a lot during their placement.
“The feedback from Michael Grange was extremely positive and I’m very proud of the way they represented themselves and East Riding College at this very prestigious hotel.”
Andrei, 17, from Scarborough said: “My time at the hotel was amazing, unforgettable. It’s a whole different style of life down there, one which I will never forget and one which I cannot wait to get back into.”
India, 17, from Primrose Valley, Filey, said: “Our time at the hotel was an awesome experience. It was stressful at times but we learnt so much from being in that environment. I’m really looking forward to working there full time.”
Michael Grange said: “It was great pleasure to welcome the students and indeed India and Andrei were a great credit to the College. They were very hard working, extremely personable, had excellent technical skills and were a terrific help and support over our busy festive period.”
