Summer fun at Beverley's local produce market this August

The next local produce monthly market in Beverley will be held on Wednesday 19 August, from 9am to 3pm, in the Wednesday Market area of the town.

This will be a special summer holiday market, with a variety of food and drink stalls and lots of additional features, including entertainment for children, with face painting and have-a-go games such as ‘splat the rat’ and ‘guess the sweets in the jar’, Beverley Garland Dancers and circus skills performer, Professor Fiddlesticks.

Town Clerk, Helen Watson said: “The market in August will be really exciting, with lots to see and do for families and children. With music, dancing, circus skills and face painting, it’s a great day out, as well as a chance to taste and try some delicious locally produced food and drinks.”

Food and drink stalls will include liqueurs from Raisthorpe Manor, smoked fish and poultry from Staal Smokehouse, pies from the Hull Pie, fruit wines from Fabulously Fruity wines, waxed cheese truckles from Nibble Nose Cheese, macaroons from Patrick’s Macarons, bread and fruit juices from Side Oven Bakery and chutneys and jams from Blueberry Hill Preserves.

The market is free to attend. It’s the fifth of six monthly local produce markets to be held in Beverley between April and September this year, as a pilot project to test its viability and sustainability long term. Organisers, Beverley Town Council, are asking people to come along and support the local producers and keep the market going.

The Mayor of Beverley, Cllr Peter Astell, said: “We need to support our producers and growers and help ‘keep it local’. With more out of town shops emerging, we especially need to look after the centre of the town. These monthly markets bring residents and tourists into Beverley, and that brings wider benefits to the town’s cafes, restaurants, shops, businesses and tourist attractions. I would encourage everyone to come along to the market and help keep Beverley vibrant, with real choice and variety.”

The local produce monthly markets are being organised by Beverley Town Council, with support from the East Riding of Yorkshire’s High Street Fund in a bid to regenerate the Wednesday Market area of the town.

“Beverley is growing its visitor economy and wider tourism offer and it is good to see residents and visitors being encouraged to use and support local producers. These events also help strengthen physical links to the Flemingate end of town in advance of the new precinct opening, which will increase footfall and trade throughout Beverley.”

The date for next the local produce monthly markets is Wednesday 16 September.
