Mural Unveiled At Appleton Court Hessle

A mural has been unveiled at Appleton Court extra care apartments in Hessle, by Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Linda Bayram.

The mural has been created by pupils at St. Anne’s special school, with the help of local ceramic artist Nuala Taylor. Nuala met with the pupils to create and design an exotic animal themed piece which was reflective of their curriculum, bringing together a collection of 60 tiles over a five week period. Once the students had completed their painting, Nuala glazed and fired the tiles for display.

Student Molly said ‘’She loved working on the project at school’’ and really enjoyed being there along with her classmate to see their artwork unveiled. The welcome day was also a great opportunity for students to see Appleton Court which supports adults of 18 plus with health and social care needs.

The bright and colourful mural will bring joy to residents of Appleton Court. Councillor Bayram said ''It has been a wonderful day at Appleton court and although the residents are living independently, they have support on hand to look after their every need. Today I had the pleasure of unveiling a beautiful exotic animal mural, all bright colours that the children of St Anne's School had made in little ceramic squares to be mounted on the wall, it was wonderful and a real pleasure.''

Appleton Court opened in 2023 and is an independent living facility hosting 43 flats designed to support adults with a variety of care needs, with 24-hour on-site care and support.
