Beverley Town Council is putting the finishing touches together for a once in a lifetime event, which will take place throughout the Town Centre on Friday 3rd June 2022.

This year marks the 70th anniversary since HM Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne – events will be held throughout the land to mark this remarkable Platinum Jubilee, with Beverley setting the stage to host a ride range of events and entertainment for all to enjoy.

The Mayor of Beverley, Councillor Linda Johnson, said: “The Platinum Jubilee of a British monarch is an utterly unique experience and a true once in a lifetime event.  We have worked with UK Events Associates to make sure there is something for everyone, whilst other community groups, churches, pubs and restaurants will also be planning their own special events.”

The day will include:

The Big Jubilee Tea Party - North Bar Within

Officially, Her Majesty the Queen will be having her Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday, 5th June but in Beverley it will be a similar event a couple of days early on Friday 3rd!

Beverley is one of the few towns to retain its ancient gate on the north of the town, which is known as North Bar. Whilst Her Majesty the Queen will have her Big Jubilee lunch in her castle, the community of Beverley will do the same at the gates of our own town.

Feel free to grab yourself a seat at one of the tables ready to welcome you and meet some new friends. You’re welcome to bring your own food or buy some of the culinary delights from our local area. The only thing we ask is to be respectful and enter in the spirit of our fun and friendship.  The nearby Coronation Garden will also host acoustic music and activities for youngsters.

Platinum Jubilee Proms - Saturday Market Place

There is no better place to join the celebrations than the beautiful historic Saturday Market area, which is steeped in history yet has ample space to host a stage and large screens.

The day will begin from 10am with various philharmonic orchestras and choirs performing throughout the day until 8pm. The official opening of our event by the Town Mayor will be at 11:15am, symbolic of the time Her Majesty the Queen began her initial enthronement some 70 years ago.

This stage will play host to the Humberside Police Band, All for One Choir, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Catterick Army Band and the Culture Orchestra.

Whilst people will be encouraged to visit the surrounding pubs and cafes, you are welcome to bring your own chairs to sit outside to enjoy the music.  Unfortunately, no alcohol is allowed, but feel free to bring your own picnic.  Please note there will be no formal seating, so bring your own, stake your claim and enjoy the day!

Platinum Jubilee Pageant - Wednesday Market Place

Making sure both ends of the town centre are involved, events in Wednesday Market will combine a more thespian element with some of the region’s finest street artists, theatres, dancers and music to celebrate the reign of Her Majesty the Queen. There will also be face-painting, circus workshops and more.

Platinum Party – Flemingate

The Town Council’s aim is it link the whole town together, right from North Bar, through the market places and over the Flemingate Development, giving each unique area its own atmosphere and style of entertainment.  Therefore, another stage will be located at Flemingate to entertain crowds throughout the day, with professional tribute acts performing music from every year of the Queen’s glorious reign.

Artists confirmed to appear include Bootleg Buddy, The Larks, Cavernites, Kiss the Teacher, Tina and the Rockettes, Ultra Jam and Lady Gaga.

Fly Past

We are delighted to announce that a special Hurricane aircraft fly past is scheduled to place on the day at 3:30pm (weather providing – negative conditions on the day may result in this being cancelled, so we are all hoping for glorious weather).

The Mayor of Beverley concluded: “The Queen is a remarkable woman and Beverley Town Council wanted to make sure our town celebrates her longevity and reign by staging a major event that the whole community can enjoy.  After the pandemic, it will also be wonderful for residents to come together and celebrate this unique national occasion in our own local way.”
