Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has today written to all schools in his constituency encouraging teachers to attend the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme.

Graham said: “It is so important that children of all ages understand Parliament and democracy. Indeed, it is vital that children appreciate that they can shape our society’s future through their engagement with these institutions.

“The UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme is a three-day course that aims to equip teachers with the knowledge and confidence to go back to their classrooms and inspire children about the work of Parliament and the values of our nation.

“Apathy towards politics has long meant that the voices of some groups are not heard. Whether through voting, or more active involvement, it is crucial to democracy that everyone feels their contribution counts.

“This programme is an excellent opportunity to educate and inspire children in Beverley and Holderness so that they better understand the political process and how they can enact change for their communities in the future. I very much hope that teachers in my constituency will sign-up to this free three-day course.”

The UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme will take place in Parliament from 1 – 3 July 2019. Transport, accommodation and meal costs are covered, and applications are welcome from teachers, school leaders and teacher training providers working with young people aged 5-18. For more information about the course, and to apply, please visit the following website: https://www.parliament.uk/education/teacher-training-cpd-opportunities/teachers-institute/

The closing date to apply is Sunday 21 April 2019.
