Local Food Awards Launch Event
Tue 5th July 2016Beverley Food Festival and East Yorkshire Local Food Network launched the 11th Local Food Awards today at Elwell's Restaurant.
Beverley Food Festival is due to take place on Sunday 2nd October, with preparations already well underway. The event will include stalls from many local food producers, as well as cookery demonstrations and entertainment.
The popular Local Food Award will also take place, in cooperation with the East Yorkshire Local Food Network (EYLFN). The 15 different categories were launched this afternoon, and entry forms will be available on Beverley Town Council website and the East Yorkshire Local Food Network website from Thursday 7th July.
The categories will be as follows:
Best Meat or Fish Product
Best Drink
Best Savoury Baked Product
Best Sweet Baked Product
Best Condiment or Confectionery Product
Best Jam or preserve
Best Pickle or Chutney
Best Dairy Product (including cheese & ice cream)
Best Fruit or Vegetable
Best Retailer of Local Produce
Best Food and Drink event
Best Local Menu - Pubs & Restaurants
Best Local Menu - Café & Tearoom
Best Local Breakfast
Local Food Hero
Local businesses such as Hider Foods, NFU, WBC and Needlers will sponsor categories. Helen Watson, Town Clerk said, "Beverley Town Council is delighted to be working with EYLFN again. We have been running the Beverley Food Festival awards for 10 years as part of the Food Festival. It has been good to work with the EYLFN for the last 2 years to join the awards together, as we are all striving for the same awards of excellence in local food."
