Graham Stuart MP supports new Government 'Go Ultra Low' campaign

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has spoken out in support of the Government’s new scheme that aims to encourage people to go electric if they’re considering getting a new car.
Sales of electric vehicles have already increased by 93% in the year to date when compared to 2018. However, the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps MP, and the Future of Transport Minister, George Freeman MP, have both indicated that the Government wants to go further and faster.
Commenting on the campaign, Graham said, “Switching to electric vehicles is a crucial part of our commitment to go net-zero by 2050, and to end the sale of all petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2040.
“The Government has invested billions into our infrastructure so that there are actually now more chargepoint locations than petrol stations in the UK. However, I know there’s more to be done to spread chargepoints to more rural areas like Beverley and Holderness, so I’ll continue working with the Government to ensure this is achieved.
“I think it’s also important that people know that electric cars aren’t just better for the environment; they’re also cheaper to run and easier to maintain than petrol or diesel cars.

Independent analysis has estimated that the global market for low-emission vehicles could be worth £1-2 trillion by 2030 and £3.6-7.6 trillion by 2050.
Graham commented: “With such huge potential, I’m keen to ensure that my constituents in Beverley and Holderness see the benefit of emerging low-emission markets as they are with Ørsted offshore wind sites off the coast of Hornsea.
“I have also written to East Riding Council to encourage them to apply to the £5 million-strong On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme so that my constituents who either already have or are thinking of getting electric cars can benefit from better infrastructure.”
