Festival of Words offers a great weekend of events for children - this weekend!

The East Riding Festival of Words 2018 – the new look literature festival running from 18-21 October – includes an exciting programme of children’s events.
Featuring a variety of authors, energetic storytelling, and a healthy dose of toilet humour, weekend events will take place in Bridlington and Beverley.
Saturday, 20 October will include these events:
‘Jack and the Boody Monster’ with local author Marion Gamble : North Bridlington library : 10.30 am : Marion is back with her new book, about a ‘hairy, scary, purple monster that makes tapping noises in the night.’ A chance to take part in Boody Monster activities and enjoy the story. Ideal for those aged three to seven, but other ages welcome : £3 per child : accompanying adults free
‘Baby Goz’ with author and storyteller Steve Weatherill : Beverley library: 10.30am : gosling Baby Goz has just hatched and his first adventure is to find his mum and meet lots of farm animals. A chance to help Goz in his search. Ideal for those aged three – seven, but other ages welcome : £3 per child (accompanying adults free)
‘Baby’s first bank heist’ with author Jim Whalley : Beverley library : 1.30pm : Baby Frank is the new criminal mastermind in town, and he really wants a new pet, against his parents’ wishes. He is dangerously cute, and desperate… Fun, games and crafts : £3 per child (accompanying adults free)
‘Can’t you sleep, little bear’? : bedtime stories : Beverley library : 5.30pm : it’s dark in the bear cave, and Little Bear can’t sleep – come along in your pyjamas for these popular bedtime stories with fun and games : cookies and milk included : £3 per child (accompanying adults free)
The fun-packed programme continues on Sunday, 21 October with this line-up:
‘Professor Fartypants and the Sausage Thief’ with local author Kizzy Jones : Beverley library : 11am : The professor’s sausages have been stolen – help him find them, and find out how he got his name…Ideal for ages 5-9, but other ages welcome : £3 per child (accompanying adults free)
What makes a witch?’ with author James Nicol : Beverley library :1.30pm : a fully interactive look at the inspiration behind the ‘The Apprentice Witch’ series, with games, bookish fun, and a little bit of gore. Ideal for ages seven plus, but other ages welcome : £3 per child (accompanying adults free)
‘The Creatures of Llynlas Forest’ with local author and illustrator Andi Dawson : Beverley library : 3pm : The Creature walks alone through the forest, looking for a friend. Will he succeed? Enjoy a craft session after the story and take home characters from the book. Ideal for ages 5-8, but other ages welcome : £3 per child (accompanying adults free).
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said : “This is a superb programme of children’s events, which will greatly add to the Festival of Words. I hope lots of families will join us to celebrate their children’s love of stories, and inspire their imaginations.”
This week, authors will also be hosting private performances for schools at East Riding libraries.

The new-look Festival of Words will feature four days full of poetry, literature and spoken word events, and will also include local bestsellers and a lively children’s festival.
