First Youth Chairperson to be elected in East Riding

First Youth Chairperson To Be Elected In East Riding

The East Riding Youth Council which is run by Volunteen Voice, a project of Community VISION CIO, in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, is looking to elect the first Youth Chairperson for the East Riding.

Young people, aged 11 to 18, who wish to join the Youth Council will have the opportunity to become the first Youth Chairperson and chair the Youth Council meetings in the East Riding.

Young people who are interested in taking up the role, can put themselves forward at the next Youth Council meeting on Monday 19 January, taking place at East Riding College, Flemingate, Beverley, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Other young people at the meeting will then elect their Chairperson.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “I’m delighted that we will be electing the county’s first Youth Chairperson. Engaging young people in our decisions and the services we deliver is so important, and the Youth Chairperson will help us grow this work.”

Dave Brown, Volunteen Support Officer, from Community VISION CIO said: “East Riding’s Youth Council provides a safe space for young people to discuss issues affecting them and feed their experiences into the decision making of East Riding Council. We welcome as many young people to get involved as possible.

“If you are interested in becoming East Riding’s first Youth Chairperson, think about three personal qualities you would bring to the role to share with the Youth Council group. This might be being passionate, determined or someone who wants to make a difference.  Accessibility and inclusiveness are also really important to us. At the meeting there will be free food and drinks, and bus fares can be reimbursed.”

Any young person wanting to be involved but cannot attend in person, can join online. If you need any other help to attend in person, or for more information and to book your place at the Youth Council meeting, text or telephone 07856782246 or email: dave.brown@communityvision.org.uk
