Elwell's hosts vegan pop up restaurant
Thu 18th April 2019Elwell’s restaurant on Flemingate, which is part of East Riding College, hosted a vegan pop up restaurant on Saturday. The Kiwi Food Company served up delicious Vegan meals to eat in or take away as part of a new venture by Elwell’s to use the restaurant as a pop up venue.
The delicious menu included exotic delights such as jackfruit and legume coconut bhuna and popular ‘burgers’ made of seitan steak.
Tony and Kerry Metcalfe from Beverley were some of the enthusiastic patrons. Tony said, “My wife is vegan, I’m not, but I really enjoy vegan food. We ordered the burger, which was fantastic and the curry, which was nice too. It’s really tasty food, and everyone enjoys tasty food, whether its meat or vegan, don’t they? You eat with your eyes and your taste buds.”
Kerry added, “I would recommend trying the Kiwi Food Co. and a vegan diet in general. It’s ethical, healthy, good for the environment and a good lifestyle. I feel different eating vegan, I eat more now than I ever did! My family’s health has improved too.”
Kate Desforges from Hull, a vegan for the last 13 years also popped by for a takeaway, ordering the chilli and potato wedges. She said, “I welcome the new interest in veganism, there is a much wider choice now than there used to be, and a lot of tasty choices too! The food here looks great, very colourful.”
