It's Pizza Baby, as new restaurant opens in Beverley's Flemingate
Thu 20th August 2020Pizza Baby, a new New York, Italian-style family restaurant, Gelato cafe and evening wine bar, has just re-opened in Beverley's Flemingate following a full, lockdown refurbishment.
The redesigned family-owned and run pizza, burger and pasta restaurant has now taken full advantage of its large floor space and spacious patio area with a new floor, champagne flower wall, added screens, and booths, revised table layout as well as a revamped heated outdoor area to the front.
"We love to feed people, that's what the culture of Pizza Baby is all about," said Louis Harrison, who owns and co-founded Pizza Baby with his partner Jessica Denter, "but we also want our customers to be safe, secure, relaxed and at home; it's all about inclusion here and everyone is welcome.
"We feel in a very privileged position, not only to be able to re-open with such fantastic, safe, high quality, family friendly new features but just to be here at all, living our dream that has well and truly come to life."
The focus on 'family' is ingrained in Louis and Jessica who opened Pizza Baby a few months ago, but were almost immediately forced to shut because of Covid-19.
"We opened Pizza Baby to offer the people of Beverley some outstanding family dining, somewhere with a bit of space for the kids and family to come along together to enjoy food, drink, good vibes and music.
"When I go home to my parents, it's all about food and family, all about sharing - we walk in the front door and there's three courses for us, all home made food. There's great food and drink and lots and lots of love and laughter.
"That's the same kind of spirit that we're bringing here and want people to enjoy - let's face it, it's not easy now for anyone, but even the little bit we can each do to make our lives better and happier can go a long way."
Being full of life and enthusiasm is typical of Louis's Italian and traveller family, which own and run seaside entertainments in Bridlington, including the Pavillion Bar on the front. Jessica also has a fairs background and a wealth of experience gained running her own events and exhibition management company for many years before joining forces with Louis to set up Pizza Baby. Daughter Macey also works in the restaurant.
Helping the couple realise their vision is Paris-trained hospitality professional Rich Scotney, who has joined them as front-of-house manager from the Michelin starred Pipe & Glass in South Dalton where he was patisserie chef.
'That's Pizza, baby' - the child and family friendly nature of Pizza Baby is clearly evident with their 'Build a Pizza' feature for children's parties, where kids get an all-in-one culinary experience, donning a chef's hat and apron, choosing and putting on their own pizza toppings then seeing the Pizza Baby chefs cook them in the oven and Pizza Baby waiting staff bring the pizzas to the table.
Pizza Baby, which has full disabled access, opens at 8am as a Gelato Cafe with coffee, patisseries, desserts, waffles, sundaes, donut milk shakes, traditional desserts and an ice cream parlour with 22 flavours of Italian-style ice cream.
At 11am the restaurant opens with freshly prepared food for all the family where pasta, burgers, ribs and salads sit alongside thin-based pizza and calzone on the menu; a full vegan menu is also available and there are vegetarian options.
From 9pm, when the cafe and restaurant closes, Pizza Baby transforms itself into a cocktail and wine Bar Baby with a champagne flower wall for photos, VIP lounge, and entertainment, including acoustic music and a big selection of cocktails and spirits including 27 types of gin and 14 types of rum. See for yourself here.
Pizza Baby is just the start for Louis and Jessica as they will be opening a second quite different cafe restaurant venue in the town in the coming months, Harrisons of Beverley, on Saturday Market, which will be a cafe and sandwich deli with a New York and Italian twist.
