Refurbishment for Tourist Information
Thu 22nd May 2014East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Visit Hull and East Yorkshire are aiming to put Beverley on the map as a must-visit destination in 2014, with the production of a new mini-guide, town map and a refurbishment of the town’s tourist information centre (TIC).
Beverley TIC is used by more than 50,000 people a year and plays an important role in providing those visiting Beverley with information about accommodation, transport and attractions throughout the East Riding. It also acts as a ticket office for a lot the local festivals and events.
The £8,000 refurbishment has seen a change in the building’s layout, creating a fresh look and more spacious feel, with the TIC’s counter now at the rear of the building and a new information point included to provide self-service facilities for users to access information.
As well as a refresh of the TIC, located in Toll Gavel, 35,000 new visitor guides and maps have been produced, packed with information about the town, events, attractions and activities.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economy, investment and inequalities, said: “Tourism is worth more than £449 million per year to the East Yorkshire economy and provides jobs for around 10,000 people.
“The town of Beverley is a popular destination for tourists and the TIC has an important role to play in making sure visitors can access all the information and help they need, a good first impression is critical in order to keep people coming back.
“Good quality customer service is key to any business, but perhaps more importantly to those involved in the tourism sector. Investing in our facilities and ensuring they are providing a visitor with the best possible experience benefits not only the council but also the wider East Riding.
“The creation of the new mini-guides and maps will also help promote Beverley, both locally and nationally.”
