CHERRY BURTON VENUE PICKED FOR NATIONAL TOUR
Tue 23rd April 2024Cherry Burton Arts in conjunction with Upstairs at Monks is set to host an evening with Scottish Americana singer-songwriter JILL JACKSON The Village Hall, Cherry Burton near Beverley on Saturday 8 June at 8pm.
It was at a recent sell-out concert by Eddi Reader at St Mary’s Church in Beverley, that the packed audience were won over by the support act Jill Jackson. The queue for her CDs in the interval spoke volumes! She later headlined at a packed-out church in Cherry Burton and has asked to return to the village once again as part of her nationwide tour to promote her brand new album ‘Curse of the Damned’.
From her humble beginnings in Glasgow to gracing the stages of Top of The Pops, of T In The Park and touring with Bryan Adams with her then band Speedway, Jackson’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable.
Jill is a natural-born storyteller, who effortlessly marries swinging American charm with a Scottish heart. In her own words, Jackson described the album as “A front seat to my life” that explores her tumultuous journey to the present. “I’m too Country for Pop or I’m too Pop for Country” she added, “I’ve never fit the mould. Now with this album I am embracing my true identity. This is me. I am pop, I am country. I am all the things I love.”
She has also recorded and performed live with her mentor fellow Scottish songwriter and musician Rab Noakes, and like thousands of others, was shocked to hear of his recent passing. One of the songs on the new album is dedicated to Rab- who has also performed on the stage at Cherry Burton Village Hall- where Jill will be revealing new songs from the album and more familiar favourites.
She explained: “I love making records but the whole purpose is to stand on that stage and perform it live. To do that and watch the audience reaction is an incredible feeling. I want people to come to my shows and walk away feeling they have had an amazing night and through the performance of the songs, have a deeper understanding of my music.’
Cherry Burton Arts organiser Martin Peirson added “Jill has a special way with an audience, and we are looking forward to her second village concert-this time in the Village Hall. She has another musician alongside her for our date, which will no doubt enhance the experience of her great songs.”
