John Godber Comedy 'Shafted' at East Riding Theatre
Wed 24th February 2016In 1985 the miners were defeated, their families were torn aprt and the media circus went home. John Godber's epic new play traces what happened to miner Harry and his wife Dot in the thirty years after the strike.
Suddenly they were thrown together, with new battles to fight, and new jobs to hold down; from window cleaning in Wakefield to running a boarding house in Bridlington; but life would never be the same again!
Fuelled with eye watering honesty and true Yorkshire grit, this is an hilarious account of those whose jobs had been taken, and communities destroyed, and how they fought back after being shafted.
The Pits may have gone, but the shifts are still seismic!
Performed by the multi BAFTA winning partnership of John Godber and Jane Thornton, whose previous work together includes the Olivier Award nominated April in Paris, BBC Radio 4 Classic Theatre, September in the Rain, and Happy Jack, and the Laurence Olivier Award winning comedy Up N Under!
The production runs at the East Riding Theatre from Tuesday 1st to Saturday 5th March, with shows beginning at 7:30pm, and a Sunday matinee performance on 6th March at 2pm. For information and tickets please contact the theatre box office on 01482 874050 or visit the East Riding Theatre website.
