Commuted Sums fund improvements to play areas in Woodmansey

Refurbishment works have now been completed on Southwood Park play area on Princess Way, meaning the final play area in Woodmansey has now been refurbished, following the works to Deer Park Way and King Street play areas in early 2019.

The refurbishments came about following the action of a local resident who undertook consultations with children and worked alongside the Parish Council to create a plan for the three play areas.

Woodmansey Parish Council were awarded £39,200 in Commuted Sums provided by local housing developments for the refurbishment of the Southwood Park play area and to install a concrete table tennis table on the site. The play area refurbishment works were carried out by Wicksteed.

At the re-opening of Deer Park Way and King Street play areas, Councillor Stephen Oliver from Woodmansey Parish Council, said: “We received comments from residents about the quality of the play experience in the parish and agreed that we really wanted to support and promote active play, healthy lifestyles and play areas that were parent friendly and a real focal point in the community. 

“Working with the residents, we have created high quality play experiences in three parks in the parish, each one offering something different for children and parents to enjoy, and for many generations to come.  The feedback we have received from families has been really positive and the usage has increased significantly.”

Councillor Mike Stathers, portfolio holder for Place Shaping including Operational Services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, added : “I am delighted that we have been able to fund these three play area improvement schemes in Woodmansey through commuted sums which were provided by local housing developments as a condition of their planning approval.”
