Young people have until Friday 27 February to vote on who they would like to represent them as East Riding Youth Parliament representatives.
47 young people have put themselves forward for Youth Parliament, each with a manifesto on the issues impacting young people that they’d like to prioritise. Videos of the manifestos are available to view: www.volunteenvoice.org.uk/
Any young person, aged 11 to 18, who lives or attends school or college in the East Riding can vote on who they would like to elect. A declaration event will take place on Thursday 5 March, when the two Youth Parliament representatives will be announced. Another two young people will be elected as deputy members and the event will also announce East Riding’s first Young Mayor.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “Being involved in the Youth Parliament gives young people a voice and chance to impact on issues affecting them. It also gives an insight into the democratic process, including standing for election, voting and why it was important. I’d urge all of our young people to look at the candidates standing and vote for who they would like to represent them over the next two years.”
Successful candidates will take part in a range of events throughout the year, including youth voice conferences and national debates. They will also join a network of youth representatives from across the UK, working together to champion youth priorities.
