Expressions of interest are open for Beverley Friary, a key historic site at the heart of Beverley.
The Council is seeking a new occupier that is viable, sustainable and compatible with its historic character. The closing date for expressions of interest is at 12 noon on Wednesday 28 October.
Beverley Friary is an historic property, part of which is Grade II* listed and dating back to the fourteenth century. It passed into council ownership in the late twentieth century and had been leased to the Youth Hostel Association, until they withdrew from the site in 2025.
It is near Beverley Minster and a range of amenities including Flemingate shopping centre, Beverley Town Centre and Beverley rail station.
Applications may be on a leasehold or freehold basis and must be accompanied by an outline business plan. This must show that the proposed use is within the keeping of the heritage asset, is properly resourced and has a long term and sustainable future.
The council also proposes that any future operator of the premises will be required to facilitate public access to the areas of the building of the greatest historic interest, at scheduled times to be agreed.
Councillor Michael Lee, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Infrastructure said; “This is a great site at the heart of Beverley, and a great opportunity for local businesses. We welcome business proposals that take account of Beverley Friary’s historic character and importance to Beverley and its residents.”
