Important reminder to all East Riding participants in the Summer Reading Challenge
Tue 22nd August 2023As the summer holidays are coming to a close, East Riding Libraries are reminding all those who took part in the Summer Reading Challenge Ready Set Read! to visit their local library and let the staff know how they got on – and collect their completer’s medal, certificate, and FREE ‘Rebel Girls’ book.
The Summer Reading Challenge teamed up nationally with Nike and Rebel Girls to gift copies of ‘Rebel Girls Kick It: World Champions Take the Pitch’, and ‘You Can Too’ to children via public libraries. This new limited-edition book created by Rebel Girls features stories and fun facts alongside original illustrations of 28 Nike athletes, Q&As with coaches, activities to enhance football skills, and innovative Nike products to increase confidence while playing sport.
Librarian Jess McCarthy said : “The Summer Reading Challenge – run in association with The Reading Agency - is always very popular, and this year has been no exception.
“We can’t take any new participants now, but we definitely want to hear from everybody who has taken part, find out about their progress, and give them their well deserved rewards!”
The annual challenge encourages children aged 4-11 to keep reading during the summer holidays. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge has been all about games and sports, delivered in partnership with the Youth Sports Trust. Participants have joined the fictional team (and their animal mascots) as they use their skills to weave their way through a summer obstacle course.
