Recycling officers to visit five towns as part of 'spring clean' campaign
Tue 13th March 2018Waste and recycling officers will be out and about in five local towns next week as part of a ‘spring clean’ campaign.
It’s that time of year when residents have a good clear out around the house, in cupboards, sheds and garages and get rid of items they no longer need.
The team from East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be visiting Bridlington, Withernsea, Hedon, Beverley and Driffield to offer advice of where people can take their rubbish instead of putting items into household bins which can’t be recycled.
The officers will be parking their recycling trailer at each location and will be on hand to speak to anyone about waste and recycling issues, answer their questions and take requests for bins and kitchen caddies.
They will be visiting:
Monday 19 March – Bridlington, Spa Promenade, behind Bridlington Spa, 10.30am-2.30pm
Tuesday 20 March – Withernsea Customer Service Centre, 10am-12.30pm
Tuesday 20 March – Hedon Library, 2pm-4.30pm
Wednesday 21 March – Beverley, Wednesday Market, 9am-3pm
Thursday 22 March – Driffield Market, 9am-3pm
No appointment is needed, residents can just go along to the trailer during the day.
Councillor Symon Fraser, the council’s portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment, said: “We want residents to carry on with the fantastic job they are doing of recycling at home, but just remind them that some items cannot go in their wheelie bins, they need to be taken to a household waste recycling site.
“These visits are a great opportunity for residents to come along and talk to our officers directly about all aspects of recycling and reducing waste.”
Spring cleaning advice
Residents are being urged to take any bulky unwanted items to any of the 10 household waste recycling sites in the East Riding, which are open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm.
Good quality items that could be reused and resold can be sent to the Reuse Shop at the Humberfield household waste recycling site near Hessle – just ask at your local recycling site. A percentage of profits go to local charities. Or items can be taken to charity shops.
Items that should be taken to household waste recycling sites include:
Broken garden furniture
Old paint pots and brushes
Broken garden tools and machinery, including lawnmowers
Old soil and compost
Rubble and bricks
Old plant pots and seed trays
Old children’s toys
Old duvets, pillows and cushions
Cardboard boxes and packaging
Unwanted clothes and shoes, bedding (blankets, duvets and pillow covers), and material can be placed in clothing banks sited across the area.
