Dogger Bank Wind Farm Opportunities
Mon 25th February 2019Local residents and businesses met with the team behind Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farms at three public information exhibitions to find out more about these exciting projects and the opportunities they bring.
Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm projects, a joint venture between SSE and Equinor, are situated over 130km off the coast of East Yorkshire, with a combined generating power of up to 3.6GW. These projects represent significant offshore wind developments and these sites would be capable of providing clean, renewable energy. Not only that, but the construction and operation of the sites would bring direct and indirect jobs and benefits to the local area.
Over 80 members of the community came along to hear about the project development as well as the plans for the onshore cable route, which will run from Ulrome to Creyke Beck substation.
Kirsty McGuigan, onshore project manager, said: “This was a great opportunity for us to go out and meet with the local community to show them the work we have been doing and talk to them about the future plans for the sites and the benefits they will bring for the local community and local businesses.
“When these projects enter the construction phase they will create a wealth of opportunities for local people to help us develop this.”
The onshore cable route, which passes through the East Riding of Yorkshire, is about 32km long and runs from the north of Ulrome, where the cables from the offshore wind farms reach the coast, to Creyke Beck substation near Cottingham, where the electricity produced will be fed into the National Grid.
Kirsty McGuigan said: “We were really pleased to see so many people come out to engage with us about the project and hope to hold more events like this in the future to keep the community and local business informed.”
