East Yorkshire trust awards grant to transform children’s hospice gardens

East Yorkshire Trust Awards Grant To Transform Children S Hospice Gardens
Martin House Children’s Hospice, which supports families across East Yorkshire, has been awarded a grant from the Hull and East Riding Charitable Trust to help transform its gardens.
The funding forms part of a wider project to restore and reimagine the hospice’s outdoor spaces following the completion of major building work. Plans include wider wheelchair-accessible pathways, sensory planting and inclusive play equipment, helping children with complex medical needs access and enjoy the outdoors more easily.
Each year, the Boston Spa hospice supports more than 550 children and young people with life-shortening conditions, and their families, across East, West and North Yorkshire.
It costs Martin House more than £13 million a year to provide this specialist care, which is completely free of charge to families. The vast majority is funded through voluntary donations and fundraising.
Becky Bailey, Trusts and Foundations Team Manager at Martin House, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the Hull and East Riding Charitable Trust for this generous grant. Support from organisations like the Trust enables us to continue providing specialist care across East Yorkshire and beyond, and this grant will make a real difference to the children and families we support.”
Since its creation in 1985, the Trust has supported around 1,650 charities that directly benefit the people of Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. It has donated £8 million to these local causes, including £325,000 in the past year alone.
Becky added: “The gardens at Martin House are a particularly special place for the families we support. They offer a peaceful space in moments of uncertainty, and the freedom for children who rely on complex medical equipment to enjoy being outdoors.”
“Thanks to this grant, even more children and families will have opportunities to play, explore and make precious memories together.”
