Beverley AC – celebrating success at Walkington 10kms and fun run!

Another resounding success for this year’s Viking Pest Control Walkington 10kms and Fun Run!

Following on from his success as last year’s winner was Dave Mckinnon, from Goole Viking Striders, who completed the course in an impressive time of 32:34, followed by Will Lewis (City of Hull AC), in 2 nd place in 32;59 with 3 rd place going to Stuart Spencer (Fitmums and Friends), in 33:04. The first female finisher was Emily Soames (Beverley AC) coming home in 36:26, followed by Beverley AC teammate, Shawnie Lovatt in 39:06 and 3 rd place female going to Sherene Wilshere(City of Hull AC) in 38:37.

A great Beverley turnout too for the Walkington Fun run with 17 Juniors taking part. Finlay Hill was 2 nd male finisher in 9:55, with Sebastian Tomlin(3 rd ) in 10:04 and Oliver Kirby(4 th ) in 10:11. Next was Nia Jackson (2 nd female finisher) in 10:23 followed by Freddie Jorna – 10:42; Addien Baker – 11:10; Zach Smith – 11:52; Oscar Wenn -11:52; Phoebe Lowe – 12:28; Ethan Bourne – 12:41; Fraser Tomlin – 12:43; Sam Little – 13:23; Violet Young – 14:11; Phoebe Sellens – 14:19; Isla Hill – 15:26; Jacob Anderson – 15:46 and Lucy Jones – 15:51.

As ever, races of this calibre require the support of many people behind the scenes, both prior to the race, during and after. Matt Frampton and Ben Atkinson, who co-ordinated the marshals were delighted with the response and our thanks go to them and to their incredibly hard- working team which greatly contributed to the success of the evening! And of course, again a very big thank you to our Walkington 10 kms sponsors, Viking Pest Control and to Westwood Mortgage Advisors who sponsor the Fun Run.

The Club also saw its annual duathlon take place this month. This 2 mile run, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run training event took place from Skidby and saw Wayne Murtagh the first to cross the finish line in 01:03:09, followed by Mark Dalton - 01:04:13; Graeme Pittaway - 01:07:14; Lee Harper - 01:07:57; Ken Pearson - 01:08:56; Emma Thomson - 01:09:38; Laura Emms - 01:09:59; Dan Hammond - 01:10:35; Steve Hodgson - 01:14:20; Chris Peach - 01:14:31, and Martin Hall - 01:27:49. Team Olly and Andy completed in 57:22.

Some more popular 10 kms races!  In the East Hull Summer League Coniston 10k, Jody Horth finished in 00:40:40, followed by John Dawson - 00:43:50; Ian Jackson - 00:54:40, and Nicola Riley - 00:58:27.

In the Normanby Hall 10k, Demi Lidster was the first Beverley AC runner home and AG1st in a time of 41:20, followed by Andy Johnson - 45:04 and AG3rd; Jenny Hamlyn – 1:02:39; Steve Ogden – 1:03:09 and Laura Egan – 1:06:45.

Back to a local Club Handicap race, the Withernsea 10k, where Simon Bishop was the first Beverley runner to finish in 36:14, followed by Steve Babb - 00:36:34; Lee Wiles - 00:41:03;  Gary Walford - 00:44:11;  Anthea Hutchinson - 00:48:28; Laura Baker - 00:50:24;  Harriet Fletcher -00:54:52;  Rachael Hill - 00:57:56),  Jackie Hardman - 00:58:33,  Lucy Bishop - 00:59:53;  Sara Owen - 01:03:00;  Milla Baker - 01:04:50;  Isabelle Horrocks - 01:05:53;  Stephen Ogden - 01:06:19;  Christine Whitehouse - 01:13:40; Jo Parnell - 01:14:40;  Cat Williamson - 01:17:32;  Hollie Oxtoby - 01:17:58;  Owynn Baker - 01:21:01;  Chris Gibson - 01:23:55, and Frank Harrison - 01:35:27.

At the Endure UK – Leeds 24-hour event over timed 5-mile laps, Stella Evins completed 10 laps (80km or 50 miles) in 23:06:03, and Jody Horth (completed 13 laps (104 km or 64 miles) in 23:24:49.

In the Round Sheffield Run, Doug Sharp was the first Beverley runner to finish this 20k trail race in 1:31:42, followed by Samantha Allen (01:40:15); Allison Hayward (02:12:17); Jessica Hobson (02:12:28); Richard Parkin (02:24:04), and Jacqueline Edwards (02:24:13).

Pete Watkinson continues to demonstrate excellent form completing the Scarborough Seaside 6-hour challenge covering 29.5 miles in 6 hours and completing the Hardwolds 40, a 48-mile challenge from Beverley to Malton with 4600ft of elevation in 11:50:58 and finishing 1 st in AG70.

8 Beverley AC members were charmed by the Charm Bracelet 8 Stations Ultra from Whitby to Pickering, with Nicholas Morrell the first to complete in 7:11:38, followed by Sarah Harris-Smith – 7:42:52; Richard Parkin – 7:42:55; Jo Rowland – 7:57:17; Nicola Riley – 7:57;22; Megan Chown – 9:25:26; Lynne Beer – 9:25:29 and Sara Owen – 9:43:10.

Continuing to smash those fells, Rob Sparkes came 24 th out of the 204 competitors in the Tebay English Championship fell race (8.1 miles and 2999ft of ascent), in a time of 1:25:56. This followed his earlier success in the Tom's Bransdale Fell Run, (8 miles with 1300 ft of ascent), where he broke the course record set in 2016 in a time of 00:52:26, while Neil Bant completed this, his debut fell run, in an impressive 01:24:01. Rob was in action again in the Skiddaw fell race (9.6 miles with 3150 ft of ascent) finishing in 2 nd place in 01:10:27, while Neil Sargeant completed the Whaley Waltz (6 miles with 1000ft of ascent) in 01:10:00.

Beverley members continue to participate in local running leagues, such as the Champagne League with recent events taking place at Kiplingcoates (5.2 miles) and Waudby Green (8.4 miles) Many members take part in Saturday morning parkruns, both locally or further afield along with regular training sessions, including strength and conditioning at Beverley Leisure Centre and speed training at the Westwood ensure that we all keep fit and are able to enjoy our running events!
