Beverley Armed Forces Weekend set to Swing - and it's FREE!
Tue 20th June 2017Celebrate 80 years of military service with a FREE 2-day event – Day 1 at Leconfield Defence School of Transport with displays, music entertainment, activities, competitions, stalls and more and Day 2 in Beverley Town Centre from 1.15pm with a Military Parade and concert featuring the Waddington Military Wives Choir.
Show your support for our Armed Forces and SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, by visiting Normandy Barracks at Leconfield to celebrate 80 years since the first operational Squadron used the site and 40 years since the military driving school was founded. Military bands, vehicles and equipment displays with local reserve units and regular members of all three services in attendance along with a fly-past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, sky-divers and a Dakota will entertain and inform the crowds. There will be plenty of food and drink outlets, including ice-cream vans if you forget your picnic!
The Defence School of Transport at Leconfield is the biggest driver-training centre in Europe. As you walk from the car park to the display area, there will be a funnel of vehicles from the smallest to the largest, showing off the school’s expertise. Not able to walk too far? There will be plenty of disabled parking! Not able to get there under your own steam? Acklams Coaches are providing FREE transport to and from the site from Sow Hill Bus Station in Beverley to the site from 10am!
Then on Day 2, the stage is dismantled and taken to Beverley’s Saturday Market for a FREE concert from 1.30 – 5pm promoting the work of SSAFA featuring the Waddington Military Wives, Cherie Lawrence, Humberside Police Concert Band and the Church Lads and Girls Brigade Band. The concert follows a Military Parade from Beverley Minster to the Market Cross. Get out your Union Jacks and get ready to clap, cheer and sing some well-loved songs!
