Charity donation from catering students
Wed 3rd June 2015Catering students at East Riding College have donated more than £350 to charity, following a number of fundraising activities at the Bridlington campus.
They raised £250 for St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough by holding an afternoon tea-themed lunch and raffle.
They chose St Catherine’s to receive the money because of the assistance the charity gave to one learner’s grandad.
A further two groups of students raised a total of £120 for Cancer Research UK by baking and selling cakes and other treats.
Catering tutor Hayley Porteus said: “The students did a fantastic job of organizing these activities and we are delighted to be able to present more than £350 to these worthy charities.”
The activities were all organised by mixed groups of learners from courses in catering and hospitality at levels one, two and three, all studying at the campus in St Mary’s Walk, Bridlington.
They were held as part of the students’ entrepreneurship lessons, which aim to develop their business skills and initiative, and help them engage with the local community.
