Acklams Coaches open in York
Thu 12th February 2015Acklams Coaches has expanded its business into York, to cater for growing demand from customers in the York to Harrogate corridor.
Already successfully operating from its base on Barmston Close in Beverley, its York shop is at 13 Micklegate.
Last year, Acklams carried more than 2,000 people to 50 destinations throughout the United Kingdom and into Europe on holidays ranging from a short weekend break to 10 days.
The company is well-known for its luxury fleet of coaches and for being one of the first coach operators in the North to provide a VIP door-to-door collection service.
In just over two years, Acklams has invested around £2.5million in new vehicles, with the latest addition to its fleet - a luxury 50-seater, all-leather seat coach - due off the production line at the Scarborough factory of Plaxtons in the next two weeks.
The new coach's first journey will be a short drive to a special open day and holiday roadshow at the Irton Garden Centre in Moor Lane, Scarborough, on Thursday 12 February.
Director Paul Acklam said: "These are very exciting times for our company. We began more than 60 years ago as a local taxi firm in the middle of Beverley, but we've grown to become a major provider of coach holidays and transport for schools, clubs and sports teams, including Hull City and Hull FC.
"We have steadily grown our customer base in East Yorkshire and, more recently, further afield, especially in York and North Yorkshire, and we see this area as a key target market for our expanding holiday business. We need to have a base in York itself where people can pop in and discuss their holiday options with our experienced staff."
