MONEY TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO HISTORIC HIGH STREETS

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley & Holderness, is encouraging local community groups to consider applying for funds from the Government’s new £44 million High Streets Heritage Action Zones scheme.
The scheme will give councils, businesses and community groups access to expert advice and investment to bring historic buildings back into use and support historic high streets to adapt to the challenges they face.
“This is a fabulous new initiative, one that’s perfect for historic high streets in Beverley and Holderness,” Graham said.
“I’ve written to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to enquire about their plans to bid for the money. I’m very pleased they have indicated they will be making an application and have also said they are happy to provide letters of support to community groups should they wish to make an application.
“Our high streets need all the help they can get. This new fund has the opportunity to breathe new life into historic high streets, helping businesses and supporting the community,” Graham said.
To meet the scheme’s criteria the High Street Heritage Action Zone must be:
in a Conservation Area;
delivered in partnership with the local authority
supported by local community and;
deliverable in four years.
