Beverley Art Gallery receives investment
Thu 20th March 2014Beverley Art Gallery is set to receive funding as part of 2015's £117million capital investment programme.
Phase one, which it is hoped will be completed by the spring, will see the first gallery refurbished at a cost of £76,000. This is being funded by the Arts Council of England, as part of their £1million funding of the Joining Up: The Humber and the First World War project.
Set to start soon afterwards, phase two will see the refurbishment of gallery two and the stairwell, and the upgrading of electronic and physical security to Government Indemnity Standard. The cost of £250,000 will be funded by East Riding Council's capital programme.
Councillor Irene Charis said: "When complete, the revamped gallery, alongside the East Riding Theatre development, will establish an exciting cultural quarter in Beverley for the benefit of residents and visitors alike."
Councillor Elaine Aird added: "In spite of the difficult financial climate, we are pleased that that Council remains committed to furthering the cultural offer of the East Riding and that improvements will be made to the art gallery.
Councillor Bryan Pearson concluded: "The works at Beverley Art Gallery will allow the Council to attract high-calibre art works with national acclaim to the town. That can only be good news for Beverley."
