The Halle Orchestra coming to Bridlington in July

Tickets are still available for a rare opportunity to go and see and join the Hallé orchestra in a concert of dance music from across the world, and experience Bridlington Spa's Royal Hall opened up to reveal stunning views across Bridlington Bay, with everything from ballet to bossa nova in a fun filled family concert!
‘Music of Dance’ will be a family concert on Sunday, 22 July, at 2pm, and against the sparkling backdrop of the sea, the orchestra conducted by Jonathon Heyward demonstrates how it can evoke the sophistication of the grandest theatres and ballrooms, the steamy passions of Spanish legend, riotous partying in the old Wild West, rhythms from the Jazz Age and beyond, and the everyday culture of the people, whether in old Bohemia or recent Latin-America.
They start with one of the best-loved ballet scores of all: Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, from The Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky wrote to his friends at the time, ‘"It's awfully fun to write a march for tin soldiers and a waltz of the flowers.”
They then cut to Spain, through the sounds of the French composer Bizet, and his operatic blockbuster-hit, Carmen. Dancers from the East Riding Youth Dance County Company will be welcomed and have created their own choreography to Bizet’s Habanera from Carmen, and the afternoon will continue with many more pieces of dance music.
To finish the concert, they travel to Mexico. The dead-pan title of Arturo Marquez’s Danza No. 2 conceals an orchestral riot! This became famous worldwide – and at the Proms - as the encore to concerts given by the young Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudemel and his Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra; there’s simply no better way to sum up the spirit of dance.

I know this will be another very popular event, offering a unique way for families to spend a summer afternoon!”

Founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé, the Hallé gave its first concert in the Free Trade Hall on 30 January 1858. The Hallé’s distinguished history of acclaimed performances includes over 70 concerts each year in The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, around 40 concerts a year around Britain, international tours, frequent broadcasts and televised performances.
The players in the Hallé are among the finest in the world and have come from 14 countries all over the world to work in Manchester. Many teach at the Royal Northern College of Music and Chetham’s School of Music and other UK wide specialist Conservatoires and schools, playing and teaching in the wider community. All are involved in the Hallé’s concerts in the UK and overseas and are central to our huge community and outreach programme.

On the previous day, Saturday 21 July, a ‘music box’ will take place which is a free session for anybody aged eight upwards - no experience necessary - to have a go with an instrument.
Community arts officer June Mitchell said : “Come and create some new music and sounds alongside musicians from the Hallé, and together you will explore the music being played at the family concert the following day.”
