Apprenticeship Pathways at Bishop Burton College

Following the success of the previous two years, East Riding learners are invited to participate in this year’s Apprenticeship Pathways Event on Thursday, 27 February, from 11am-7pm, at Bishop Burton College.

The main purpose of the event is to give genuinely interested students the opportunity to discuss apprenticeships with both training providers and their partner employers. Students attending will be years 11-13, but mainly year 11. Interested sixth-formers have been invited to explore higher level apprenticeship opportunities.

Apprenticeships are available in a wide variety of areas, including land-based engineering, engineering, business administration and law, motor vehicle, construction crafts, sport and leisure, travel, game keeping, information technology, logistics, health and social care, childcare, hospitality and catering, agriculture horticulture, gas industry, accountancy, hair and beauty, customer service retail, animal care and equine.

East Riding schools and academies have been invited to send interested students between 11am-5pm. The event will then be opened up for year 11 parents and students, giving them the more informal early evening extension from 5pm–7pm.

Councillor Julie Abraham, cabinet portfolio holder for children, young people and education at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Apprenticeships are a key route in higher education and allow people to earn-while-they-learn and develop the necessary skills to forge a career in their chosen field.

“The event on Thursday, 27 February will allow those considering taking up an apprenticeship to look at the options available to them and find answers to any questions they may have.”

The event will showcase the true value of apprenticeships as a positive career choice for young people. We welcome all visitors to Bishop Burton College and are very pleased to host the event and share our outstanding facilities.”

The event has been organised through collaboration between the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), the local authority, local careers advisors and, this year, all 18 East Riding secondary schools. NAS will be doing a general talk on apprenticeships and local careers advisors will be assisting students with online application processes.
