Beverley in Bloom
Fri 26th August 2016The Beverley in Bloom competition has had another successful year in aiming to aesthetically please residents and visitors.
Just Beverley have had compliments on how much the flowers have impacted the town this summer. They have been blooming since May, when the competition started.
The deadline for the competition was 31st May 2016, and the Yorkshire in Bloom judges, Jane Macaulay and Sheila Johnson, visited Beverley on 13th July 2016 and made their way through the town, admiring all the displays included in this years competition. They judged a range of three categories: horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation.
The competition this year had support from residents, local businesses, The East Riding of Yorkshire Council and The Beverley Town Council all of which donated an amazing £1800 worth of flowers and supplies ready for the competition. The donations also consisted of 54 businesses ordering summer hanging baskets for outside their offices/ shops.
The volunteers all worked together to replace the old wooden planters and barrels with recycled plastic, self- watering new ones; which also helped to improve the aesthetics of the town, giving it a more modern look.
The Yorkshire in Bloom main awards will be held on 13th September 2016 and the local Beverley in Bloom awards and certificates will be held 16th September 2016 (6pm) at St. Mary's Church.
With all the volunteer contributions around the town, it has enhanced the amount of visitors enjoying their experience in Beverley.
