More than 200 attend exhibition for £1.3m Willerby roundabout improvement scheme
Tue 21st September 2021More than 200 people went along to an exhibition to find out more about a £1.3m scheme to improve traffic flow on a busy Willerby roundabout.
The event was held on Wednesday (25 July) by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which invited people along to view its proposed scheme for the junction of the A164 and B1232 at Willerby and also have their say.
Plans, images and videos of the project were on show at the exhibition, held at Lazaat’s Hotel in Cottingham from 9am to 8pm, and council officers and consultants were on hand to explain the scheme and answer questions. The event was Covid safe.
The council’s proposal involves transforming the junction, by reshaping the existing roundabout and installing new traffic lights at the site.
The roundabout currently suffers badly from congestion. But the new layout is designed to keep more vehicles moving, cut down on congestion and substantially reduce queuing and delays for drivers entering the roundabout on the B1232 from Willerby.
Councillor Gary McMaster, the council’s portfolio holder for planning, infrastructure and housing, who attended the event, said: “There was a steady stream of people during the day, with more than 200 in total, so it was a very successful event.
“Our officers were there to explain the scheme to the public and most attendees appreciated the concept. Overall people seemed to be in favour of the proposal.”

Construction of the scheme is due to begin in January 2022 and is expected to take eight months to complete. The overall estimated cost of the scheme is £1.3m, with around half funded by local housing developers and the remainder funded by the council.
