Dog Beer profits to help RSPCA
Wed 6th March 2019Did you know The Tiger Inn on Lairgate sells dog beer for your canine friend? Now the profits are all going to the RSPCA because of the need to build a new compound at Clough Road.
The local RSPCA does a great job rescuing unwanted and abandoned animals and rehousing them with caring owners. last year alone, it rescued 89 dogs from violent and neglectful owners. Unfortunately, the kennels at Clough Road have had to be condemned as they don't reach the RSPCA's own high standards anymore. The nearest rescue centre is 40 miles away, so the RSPCA needs to build new kennels in the area.
The old kennels were built in 1970 and after such heavy use were not fit for purpose. The RSPCA wants to build 15 new kennels, which are not only of the highest standard for re-homing, but also for treatment and rehabilitation as many of the dogs rescued are very sick, old or injured. The kennels will be sheltered, bright, safe and heated; the cost will be £367,000.
Local branches only receive a small amount of funding from the national RSPCA so the £367,000 needs to be raised locally. Every penny helps! Allan Slinger, Manager at the Tiger, hopes that there will be many a loved pooch who will be treated to a 'beer' which will help a fellow dog in need.
