Tesco Beverley welcomes the 4th Beverley Guides
Mon 24th February 2020Tesco Beverley was recently pleased to welcome the 4th Beverley (St Mary’s) Guides to the store to help with their Skills for Life programme.
Helen Pook, Group Leader said: ''As part of our winter programme we have been learning about period poverty and foodbanks. As part of this and the Guide programme of gaining Skills for Life, the Guides spent time in Tesco shopping to a budget for products that the East Yorkshire Foodbank is short of. Each of our six patrol teams were given a list and budget of £15 to purchase all the items on the list, deciding on best value for money, budgeting for what they can afford and purchasing the items. We had a great evening learning new skills and prompting a lot of discussion. We would like to thank Tesco for supporting us in our activities.’’
As a result of the initiative, £90 of items were donated to the foodbank, which Tesco will top up by 20%. Richard Newby, Development Manager at the Foodbank added: ‘’We would like to thank the 4th Beverley Guides from St Mary's for raising £90 and spending it on food donations for the foodbank in the Beverley Tesco store. This donation will help us to continue our work feeding people in our local community currently in crisis situations.’’
