Tickton Bridge near Beverley to be closed to extra wide vehicles for 12 weeks for repairs
Fri 10th March 2017Tickton Bridge, on the A1035 road to Beverley, is to be closed to extra wide vehicles only, for 12 weeks to allow for important repairs to be carried out.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council contractors will begin work on Monday 13 March on a scheme to replace the metal safety railings, known as parapets, on either edge of the bridge, over the River Hull and Barmston Drain.
The scheme will cost £177,000 and is due to be completed by the end of May.
The bridge - on a busy, major route between Beverley and Bridlington - will be kept open to regular traffic, without the need for traffic lights.
But in order to carry out the work as safely as possible the road across the bridge will be narrowed and concrete safety barriers will be placed at either side to protect the workers on site.
Because of the narrowed road all vehicles over 3 metres in width – those larger than a regular HGV – will be prohibited from the bridge, and a diversion will be in place.
The diversion will take the larger vehicles from Beverley along the A164 to Driffield, the A614 to Bridlington, and then to A165 and A1035 as far as Tickton.
Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The vast majority of motorists will be unaffected by the work and will be able to use the bridge as normal.
“However we apologise in advance to drivers of extra wide vehicles, but this work is necessary to improve the safety of the bridge railings.”
The work will be carried out by PBS Construction Ltd from Hull.
Funding for the scheme has come from the Government’s Local Transport Funding Plan.
Details of the signed diversion route can be found at the website roadworks.org from Monday.
