Beverley Town Council was delighted to host a civic reception on Friday 3rd October 2025 to welcome a delegation from Stendal, Germany — a town twinned with Beverley’s twin town of Lemgo — as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen international friendships and cultural ties.
The reception, held in the historic surroundings of The Monks Walk in Beverley, took place exactly 35 years to the day since the reunification of Germany. Councillors, members of the Beverley Lemgo Twinning Association, and guests from Stendal gathered to celebrate shared values of friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange.
Deputy Mayor of Beverley, Cllr Cheryl Giles, accompanied by Deputy Consort Cllr Adrian Ramsdale, formally welcomed the visitors on behalf of the town and spoke warmly about the significance of such connections.
“On behalf of Beverley, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome our friends from Stendal,” said Cllr Giles. “Your presence brings a sense of joy, connection, and shared purpose that reminds us why these friendships matter. Though we may be separated by geography, we are united by friendship, culture, and a desire to learn from one another. This visit is not just a meeting of people — it is an exchange of ideas, traditions, and stories that can enrich both of our towns. I hope that your time here is filled with memorable experiences and a true sense of belonging. I also hope that this visit strengthens the bond between our communities and our mutual friends in Lemgo, paving the way for many more shared moments in the future. A fond welcome to Beverley — your home away from home.”
The visiting delegation expressed their thanks to Beverley Town Council and the Beverley Lemgo Twinning Association for organising the event and for their ongoing commitment to international partnership.
The evening concluded with an exchange of gifts and a renewed pledge to continue strengthening the ties between Beverley, Lemgo, and Stendal for many years to come.
