Beverley What's On Community Event coming to East Riding Leisure Beverley on Sunday, 26 June, in memory of Ivan Usher
Wed 8th June 2022Sunday, 26 June, 2022, will see a major community event at East Riding Leisure Beverley, when many local organisations, sports clubs and local residents will come together for the Beverley What’s On Community Event in memory of Ivan Usher, from 10am to 3pm. Those attending will have the chance to try out a wide range of activities and sports, support local clubs taking part in football and rugby matches, and find out more about what’s going on in Beverley.
The event is a joint initiative between the council’s health and wellbeing team, East Riding Leisure Beverley and The Usher family, and is a tribute to the memory of Ivan Usher, after whom a stand is named at Beverley Town FC. Ivan taught PE at Longcroft School for approximately 30 years before his family set up and ran a Fitness Centre in Beverley. He was an extremely respected teacher and sportsman and inspired and influenced many people.
On the day, over 20 local organisations will be present with stalls to explain what clubs, activities and community groups are going on in Beverley. There will be free Boditrax scans, and free taster sessions of a range of activities for Over 50s, children and families.
On the 3G and grass pitches, local football and rugby teams will compete for the Ivan Usher Cup : Beverley RUFC, Beverley Braves Rugby, Tickton AFC, Beverley Town FC, and Cherry Burton FC.
Activities to try – or to watch - throughout the day will include walking netball and walking cricket; Nordic walking; chair-based exercise; basketball and gymnastics; as well as the Flemingate Bowls Club and Born to Move. The full timetable of events will be available shortly on social media, and on the East Riding Leisure Beverley website.
Laura Hutchinson, healthy lifestyles development officer at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This will be a great event, and an excellent way for people in Beverley to find out more about what happens in the town, whilst also watching some great matches, and trying out some new activities as well!”
