Graham to quiz Humber LEP officials

On Friday Graham Stuart MP will quiz officials from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership about the progress being made with delivering the Humber Gold Standard for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.

Graham, who is a keen advocate of high quality careers education for young people, helped to launch the Humber Gold Standard in 2014.  As the Chairman of the Education Select Committee at the time, he and his colleagues issued an extremely critical report about the standard of careers advice available in schools in 2013.

The Humber Gold Standard was designed by the Humber LEP, which has worked with schools, colleges and academies to set a robust and challenging assessment framework to ensure that high quality, impartial and current information is provided to support the progression of young people aged 11-19 to further study or into employment.

At Friday’s meeting Graham will hear how many schools in the Humber area have signed up, what success has been achieved and what challenges remain.

Ahead of the meeting, Graham said,

“I’m looking forward to getting an update from officials at the LEP about how the Humber Gold Standard is helping to deliver better careers education for young people in the East Riding.  It’s really important pupils get a clear sense of all the different career paths that exist and the courses they need to take to pursue their goals.

“Lots of local schools have achieved the Gold Standard, like Hornsea School and Language College which I visited last year to celebrate this.  I would urge parents and governors to check whether their school is working to obtain the Gold Standard and to ask if not, why not – this really matters for children’s futures.”
