Rebecca McKee, who works for East Riding School Music Service, has been named as the Visting Teacher of the Year at Classic FM Teacher of the Year awards.
The awards recognise exceptional music teachers who have made a difference to the musical experiences of children and young people.
Rebecca was chosen by a panel of industry judges, which included representatives from Classic FM, The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, the Department for Education, music teachers and experts from across the sector.
Rebecca said: "I am truly honoured and completely blown away to have received this award, this really means so much to me. I absolutely love my job, and I feel very lucky to be able to provide children with opportunities to engage in music.
"Music is fun, and I love to see the children enjoying and expressing themselves through making brilliant music."
The judges said: “Rebecca champions inclusion in all her musical activities: she has created countless opportunities for all children to access music, particularly those who otherwise may not have.
“She supports other teachers, leading continued professional development for staff to support them in making their music lessons as inclusive as possible, sharing videos of lessons with pupils with additional needs. She arranged for all new instrument lesson starter forms to be translated into multiple languages to reach as wide a community as possible. She isn’t in a management role, but she still does it to give support where needed. Rebecca is a remarkable force for good!”
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: "We are so proud of Becky, one of our fabulous team of teachers. It’s great to see music education being key to the life of so many schools right across the East Riding, and how music has the ability to engage and improve the education and lives of children and young people."
Rebecca will receive £3,500 to spend on musical instruments and equipment of her choice, funded by the award sponsor, Viking UK.
