STAY SAFE AND WARM THIS WINTER - INSTALL AN OUTDOOR SOCKET!
Fri 8th November 2019Beautiful outdoor lighting is a wonderful way to keep our spirits up over the winter period - fairy lights in trees, lighting over decking and as we get closer to December, Christmas decorations!
But, how do we ensure that we can enjoy the full benefit of outdoor lighting, heating and festive decorations whilst staying safe? Plugging an appliance into an indoor socket with the flex poking through an open or closed window is far from ideal, letting the cold air and bad weather in, and all the warm air out - a waste of energy and a nasty draft. What’s more, it isn’t safe!
Flexes shut in window frames can be damaged, and if the flex isn’t weatherproof it can lead to further, more dangerous problems involving electricity and water!
Installing an outdoor socket that is RCD-protected, and which ideally sits in a weather proof box, is the safest way to light up those dark nights and experience a warm glow!
Clearly outdoor sockets aren’t solely for winter use. A whole range of outdoor electricals are used throughout the year from DIY tools to the ubiquitous lawnmower, and all can be plugged in to the outdoor socket.
So, if you do intend putting up some outdoor lighting this winter, make sure you do so safely! Remember - loose wires do cause fires. Contact Burton Electrical on 01964 552769.
