Beverley based siblings drive family lawn care business to 25 years of success

Beverley based siblings, Simon Duncan and Hannah Stillings, are celebrating their first-year anniversary of GreenThumb Beverley and Hull having taken over the reins of the family-run business from their retired parents. With over 50,000 lawn treatments annually, the duo are continuing to build on the family legacy of offering a bespoke high quality lawn care service to homes and businesses in and around East Yorkshire for almost 25 years. 

Born and bred in Beverley, Simon and Hannah got their first taste of working for GreenThumb in their early teenage years, when they helped out with administrative and lawn maintenance tasks to earn pocket money during the school holidays. With their parents now fully retired, the brother and sister partnership have taken their new franchise business to the next level, operating their fleet of 10 branded vans from their depot in Beverley, supported by 16 full time employees, including nine longstanding lawn operatives.  

Following a redundancy in the hospitality sector in October 2020, Simon took this opportunity to change his career path and began working full time with his parents in 2021 with the view to taking over once they withdrew. Having now stepped into the role of running the franchise alongside his sister, Simon restructured the business and has day to day responsibility for the operations of the business, along with the finance and sales and marketing. Hannah looks after HR and compliance and is also currently working for East Riding of Yorkshire Council in education part-time.

With their combined years of transferable management skills, which include business planning and strategy, sales and marketing, people management and customer service, Simon and Hannah are now accelerating the growth of the well-established and trusted local business and delivering exceptional customer service to every customer – a cornerstone of GreenThumb’s success.

With Hannah’s close links with Elloughton Primary School, the franchise is also providing free lawn care services to ensure the field and social areas for the pupils are well maintained.
