500 000 Road Improvement Scheme To Begin In Everthorpe Near South Cave

A project to improve roads and drainage in the village of Everthorpe, near South Cave, is due to start next week.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest £500,000 to upgrade High Road and Low Road in the village, with the scheme scheduled to begin on Tuesday 7 April.

The work is due to take around 20 weeks to complete, in two phases, with the aim of strengthening the existing roads by carrying out structural patching and reconstruction.

Extensive drainage improvements will also be carried out to reduce the impact of surface water flooding on the roads and to surrounding properties.

Phase one

The first stage of the work will start on Low Road on Tuesday 7 April and is due to take nine weeks to complete, weather permitting.

During that time, the road from the junction of High Road/Low Road to Everthorpe Lane will be closed, with a traffic diversion in place between Low Road, Sands Lane, Station Road and Everthorpe Lane.

Phase two

The second phase is due to begin on Low Road on Monday 1 June and take 11 weeks to complete.

The road from the junction of High Road/Low Road to Sands Lane will be closed during that time and a diversion will be in place between High Road, Everthorpe Lane, Station Road and Sands Lane.

While every effort will be taken to maintain vehicle access for residents and businesses in the working area, some temporary restrictions may occur. Residents and traders will be notified in advance.

Access for bin collections, deliveries and emergency services will not be restricted.

Pedestrian access will be provided, however footpath diversions will be in place at times.

The project will be carried out by contractor PBS Construction (NE) Ltd on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Thank you in advance to local residents, business people and drivers for their patience while we carry out these essential works.

“We would urge motorists and pedestrians to please follow all instructions and diversions to help us to complete this project as quickly as we can.

“These improvements need to be carried out to upgrade the road surfaces and drainage to reduce the risk of flooding on local roads and to properties.”
