Train line is full steam ahead
Tue 3rd February 2015A direct rail link from Beverley to London, announced last month, is set to become a reality on Wednesday, when the first trains will make the journey.
Operator First Hull Trains has been granted Office of Rail Regulation permission for the service, which will run every weekday.
Managing director Will Dunnett said: "We've been working closely with the Office of Rail Regulation over several months to introduce the new service, which we know the people of East Riding and Beverley have wanted for a long time. We know our passengers love Hull Trains and our aim is to ensure the East Riding is connected to the capital via a direct service, as never before."
Journeys are set to run from Monday to Friday when it is introduced. Trains will leave Beverley at 6.02am, calling at Hull, Brough, Howden, Doncaster, Retford, and Grantham. They will arrive at 9.16am. Return journeys will follow the same route, leaving London in the evenings at 6.50pm and reaching the town at 9.46pm.
The service is First Hull Trains' opening foray into the northern part of East Yorkshire and could be a springboard for further expansion. It already operates 90 direct trains a week to the capital from Paragon Interchange.
Mr Dunnett said: "Before the arrival of First Hull Trains, passengers in Hull had to change services if they wanted to travel to the capital. The convenience of a direct service cannot be underestimated and vastly improves the passenger journey by taking away the worry of needing to rely on connecting services."
