Beverley is voted the Best in Bloom!
Thu 14th September 2017A handful of prestigious awards were won by Beverley including the coveted title of ‘Best Town 2017’ at the recent Yorkshire in Bloom Award ceremony held at York Racecourse on Tuesday 12th September.
With nearly 500 guests attending including civic dignitaries representing communities, towns and cities from across Yorkshire. The Mayor of Beverley Cllr Ann Willis was welcomed to the stage to receive the awards, of Gold Award and winner of overall category for large town/small cities together with the ‘Yorkshire Rose Award for Best Town 2017’, from Lady Emma Ingilby of Ripley Castle.
The awards were the culmination of months of planning and preparation by Beverley Town Council officials and the dedicated team of volunteers from the Beverley in Bloom group.
The Bloom group and the Yorkshire in Bloom entry is managed and coordinated by Beverley Town Council with the stated aims of improving floral displays throughout town, promoting a heightened sense of community spirit and civic pride, making Beverley an even better place to in which to live, work and visit, as well as stimulating voluntary work and partnership working between community groups and local businesses.
An extract from the judges overall impressions of the town says ‘’The horticultural standards displayed coupled with the rich heritage the town has to offer puts Beverley in the top echelons of visitor destination’’.
Commenting on the awards Town Clerk, Helen Watson said, ‘’ Winning the overall category and also the most prestigious Yorkshire Rose Award for Best Town in Yorkshire is a fantastic achievement, together with the Gold Award to Molescroft School in the young Persons category and the Gold Award to Flemingate in the shopping centre and retail parks category, the overall results have been truly magnificent for Beverley. It is just reward for all the hard work and enthusiasm by all those volunteers involved in ensuring that our wonderful town continues to prosper and be the community in which we all can be very proud. We must say a huge thank you to all concerned’’.
